  • During the initial assessment, with your consent, your assessment may involve undressing from the waist down for a visual examination, internal vaginal or rectal examination. It may be followed by the use of EMG Biofeedback using sensors placed on either side of the anus during exercises standing and in prone to see if there is a difference and or whether the muscles are engaging effectively.

  • Any reports from your doctor regarding ultrasounds, MRI’s, XRAY’s that pertain to your Pelvic Floor / lower back & pelvis, it is helpful to bring them with you.

    If you are coming for Separated Abdominals, Core Training or Pelvic Girdle Pain - bring shorts or wear stretchy pants.

    ** In general, wear comfortable clothing for your appointments.**

  • It is your choice. We understand that when you have a baby that it is often a package deal when coming for appointments. We love babies and kids!!

    Some patients may find that having their kids in the session with them is too large of distraction and may deter them from bringing them to future sessions.

    If you are stuck without child care - bring them, we would rather you receive the care you need than cancel as we are comfortable working in an environment where the babies / kid(s) are there during the session.

  • No, we can assess your pelvic floor, give you therapeutic exercises to help correct or prevent separated abdominals, urinary and fecal incontinence, prolapse and prepare you for birth with proper pushing techniques.

    Postpartum- we suggest that you wait 6 - 8 weeks post birth (depending on sensitivity) before your postpartum follow up in order to allow yourself time to heal.

  • It depends on what kind of surgery and how sensitive you are. Golden rule is between 6-8 weeks before any kind of internal exam to ensure that the tissues have had ample time to heal. If you are looking to have help with your scars 4 weeks post surgery may be appropriate.

  • Yes! We can help treat Male Genital Pain, Persistent Pelvic Pain, Low Back/ Sacroiliac Joint Pain, Urinary or fecal incontinence, Voiding Dysfunction, Chronic Prostatitis, Pre and Post Prostate Surgery/ Radiation, Physiological Erectile Disfunction and Premature Ejaculation.

HOW WE TREAT

Initial Pelvic Floor Assessment- 60 minutes

  • We listen - to your history, symptoms and concerns as well as your treatment goals.

  • Physical Exam - our assessment may or may not include; a full exam (internal vaginal or rectal),EMG Biofeedback (using sensors placed on either side of the anus during exercises standing and while laying down), and palpations of the abdomen to assess your current condition.

  • Education - providing information on what is happening, why it is happening, and how to improve your symptoms.

  • Homework - Specific exercises design to allow you to have better muscle control and engagement in just a few minutes per day.

    ** You are in control of your progress, the more dedicated you are, the quicker you will have relief/ positive outcome.**

Subsequent Pelvic Floor Session- 60 minutes (2-3 weeks after Initial Assessment)

  • We Listen - how did the previous 2 weeks go, any improvements to your symptoms, any impediments, etc.

  • Physical Exam - Re-assess after 2 weeks of homework to see where improvements have been made and if any modifications or adjustments to the program are necessary.

  • Muscle Coaching - how to engage and release specific muscles / muscle groups or how to relax specific muscles that might be holding too much tension with our EMG Biofeedback and abdominal palpations.

  • Homework - our homework is designed to improve your short & long term recovery from your current condition with little to no additional symptoms by incorporating the pelvic floor into functional exercises.

** Additional sessions may be required. Sarah will let you know how many sessions she feels you will need. **

Pelvic Floor Physio requires you to do the homework to see the results. For some, booking monthly appointments is appropriate for consistency and accountability. We are here for as much care as you feel you need.
