Bladder Incontinence
Bladder leaks can happen for a few reasons. Let’s break it down.
A normal bladder will signal with light contractions when 1-1.5 cups of urine are ready to be emptied in a washroom.
A strong pelvic floor aids the bladder’s closure mechanism to ensure its ability hold and release urine as needed.
Stress Incontinence
Stress incontinence occurs when daily activities like running, walking, dancing, lifting, sneezing, coughing or laughing create a sudden build up of pressure causing the bladder to leak.
Addressing the pelvic floor is a component of regulating intra-abdominal pressure preventing accidental urine release.
Urge Urinary Incontinence
Urge incontinence is a sudden strong compulsion to urinate that leaves little to no time to find facilities before the bladder uncontrollably voids its contents. This unyielding signal to urinate happens regardless of what volume of fluid is within it.
We can help reprogram your bladder/ brain to be able ward off false signals and lengthen the time between the signal to urinate and when voiding is absolutely necessary.
Overactive bladder is also known as “Frequency” - where the bladder is constantly sending the signal to urinate.
